Spring Python 1.2.0.RC1 is released!

Submitted by gturnquist on Wed, 2010-11-03 15:16
in

Dear Spring Community,
I'm pleased to announce that Spring Python 1.2.0.RC1 is available. Spring Python takes the concepts implemented by the Spring Framework, and applies them in Python. It includes features like dependency injection, aspect oriented programming, data access, transactions, security, remoting, and JMS support.
Download | Reference Documentation | Python API Docs | Blog
This is the first release candidate of Spring Python's latest 1.2 baseline, which includes support for Pyro 4, Secure XML-RPC connections, and several bug fixes. It also signals the transition to Python 2.6. We also transitioned the project's source code management to git.
You can also order your copy of Spring Python 1.1 from Packt Publishing to explore its many features provided with lots of code examples. While the book doesn't cover the new features listed above, the rest of the features are applicable.
Since this project's inception back in 2006, the community has provided excellent feedback throughout the development process.
I encourage anyone interested to get involved by trying out the new functionality and giving us feedback in the community forum and JIRA as we proceed to add newer functionality to serve the Spring Python community.
Greg Turnquist
Spring Python Project Lead

Eclipse Virgo 2.1.0 Released

Submitted by gnormington on Mon, 2010-11-01 04:22
in

The first official release of Virgo, 2.1.0.RELEASE, is available to download. Gemini Web, used by Virgo, is also officially released at 1.1.0.RELEASE and available to download.
The release is the contribution of SpringSource dm Server code relicensed under the Eclipse Public License and repackaged in the org.eclipse namespace. Apart from passing the stringent Eclipse legal review process, there are several improvements over dm Server 2.0.x: startup is much faster, several dependencies have been upgraded, a few bugs were fixed, and several enhancements were made.
The response from the community has been particularly encouraging with thousands of downloads of the milestones and numerous forum posts and mailing list discussions. We are particularly grateful to the code contributors, listed in the release notes.
The main objective of contributing Virgo was to grow the community and thereby make the technology more easily consumed by application developers. The project seems to be meeting the community objective and we are now preparing to donate the Virgo tooling to Eclipse which will enable the community to help us make the developer experience smoother, especially for newcomers to modularity and OSGi.
The future looks promising, starting with a Virgo face-to-face meeting at the end of this month. It's not too late to express your interest (on virgo-dev) if you would like to attend.
